Statement of David Braun on Behalf of Americans Against Fracking
Washington, D.C.— “Today, a group of environmental, human rights and consumer organizations including Fundar – Centro de Análisis e Investigación, Medio Ambiente y Sociedad, Greenpeace, Blue Planet Project, Espacio DESC, FAN México, Equipo Pueblo, Food & Water Watch, Coalición de Organizaciones Mexicanas por el Derecho al Agua, Encuentro Ciudadano Lagunero, La Asamblea Veracruzana de Iniciativas y Defensa Ambiental (LA VIDA) and Frente Amplio Ambientalista announced the launch of Alianza Mexicana Contra el Fracking, a new coalition dedicated to banning hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in Mexico.
“The formation of this new coalition underscores the fact that fracking is a global threat, one that puts water, air, economies and communities around the world at risk. Americans Against Fracking stands in solidarity with Alianza Mexicana Contra el Fracking, and its efforts to protect communities and resources in Mexico from aggressive oil and gas development.
“The formation of this new coalition is especially timely, as it comes just two months before the second Global Frackdown, a day of action on October 19, in which communities around the world will come together to fight fracking. Resistance to fracking escalates by the day as more and more communities reject this destructive, toxic process and advocate for truly clean, sustainable energy solutions.”
